It's Time to Fix America's Broken Travel System Since 9/11, overseas travel to the U.S. has plummeted by almost 20 percent. Business, Meeting, leisure and other types of travelers are choosing non-U.S. destinations costing the U.S. economy an estimated $94 billion and a loss of 194,000+ jobs. In an effort to persuade Congress to address the problem the Travel Industry of America has created the Discover America Partnership, a three-point plan to fix America's broken travel system and is asking the exhibition and meetings industry to help to push these reforms through Congress. ESCA's Board of Directors has endorsed the program and Don Freeman, Chairman and CEO of Freeman, has taken the lead with a donation of $20,000 and comments "I believe strongly that TIA can make a difference in boosting international attendance at U.S. exhibitions. I see a return to our company in growth of U.S. trade shows, driven by greater attendance and worldwide commerce. We continue to look for ways to take the hassle out of attending U.S. exhibitions, and I believe TIA can be a great help in this area." Freeman has strongly encouraged other ESCA member companies to support the initiative. |
