GES at .65 
GES Exposition Services Paves the Way with Challenge Grant
The ESCA Board of Directors is extremely grateful to GES for their "challenge grant" of $10,000 to the ESCA Strategic Plan Fund.  In making the grant, GES challenges all other members to do the same.  GES's grant will go toward funding the start-up costs of initiating the National Worker Identification Initiative and the Regional Educational workshops (two new programs ESCA is starting in 2008).  In thanking GES, ESCA President Aaron Bludworth said "With the strong support of our membership, as demonstrated by GES, we are moving forward in establishing many of the new programs and initiatives slated for 2008."

ESCA, IAEE, SISO and MATSO Form Joint Taskforce to Oppose Exclusivity in Publicity Funded Facilities
During the recent ESCA Board of Directors meeting in Las Vegas ESCA established a committee to work on the joint taskforce opposing exclusivity.  ESCA committee members are Aaron Bludworth, Tim McGill, Jay Atherton and Al Dyess.
Carpenters and Exhibition Contractors Sponsor 2008 Tradeshow National Labor/Management Conference 
The United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC), in conjunction with the Exhibition Services & Contractors Association (ESCA) and the Exhibitor Appointed Contractors Association (EACA) announce that they are collectively sponsoring the 2008 Tradeshow National Labor/Management Conference at the Carpenters International Training Center in Las Vegas, NV on March 7-8, 2008.
New DOT Rule for Passengers Traveling with Lithium Batteries

EXPO Finds Median Cost Per Square foot is $17
The median charge per net square foot for exhibit space is $17, according to data gathered by EXPO Magazine and Exhibit Surveys, Inc., during a recent survey of 340 show organizers. More than 20 percent of show organizers report charging from $9 to $14.99, and 19.4 percent report charging less than $9 per net square foot.
Mergers & Acquisitions in Meeting & Exhibition Industry Rise in 2007
According to New York-based Jordan, Edmiston Group, Inc., mergers and acquisitions for exhibitions and conferences rose 27 percent in 2007.  There were 66 transactions in '07 compared with 52 in the previous year. The value of industry transactions in '07 is estimated at more than $1 billion, a 21 percent increase from the $875 million generated in 2006.
American Airlines to Offer In-flight Internet Access
American Airlines has announced that it is installing in-flight wireless internet on some of its' fleet. AA plans to install and test the technology on all of its Boeing 767-200 aircraft that primarily fly transcontinental routes.  Customers will experience speeds similar to wireless, mobile, broadband services on the ground.  The system only allows data communications, not cell phones or voice over IP devices.  Pending successful trials on the 767 aircraft, AA could extend in-flight broadband service to the remainder of its domestic fleet in the near future.
