Official registration materials & sponsorship information is available at www.esca.org. | | ESCA Strategic Plan Fund Growing Last month Kevin Rabbitt, President & CEO of GES Exposition Services, made a "challenge grant" of $10,000 to ESCA's Strategic Plan Fund and encouraged all member companies to follow his lead. This month Tim McGill, CEO of Hargrove Inc has accepted the challenge with a grant of $2500, saying "Hargrove sees and believes in the direction that ESCA's Strategic Plan is taking the organization with visible representation of its' membership in the industry, new educational programs being rolled-out, the new National Exhibition Worker Identification Initiative and increased attendance at all events. We are proud to show strong support of these programs and our association". Additional grants have been committed by other member companies for later in the fiscal year. | ESCA to Produce ETCP Rigging Certification ClassesESCA is producing three ETCP Certification Classes and Examinations in 2008. The classes/exams will be held in the IUPAT District Council 36/Local 831 training facility in El Monte, CA May 19-22, the Dallas Convention Center July 11-14, the Georgia World Congress Center July 28-31.These classes are being made possible through sponsorship from Freeman and the hosting of ESCA member facilities DCC, GWCC and IUPAT. Registration information will be distributed in March. | Carpenters and Exhibition Contractors Sponsor 2008 Tradeshow National Labor/Management Conference The United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC), in conjunction with the Exhibition Services & Contractors Association (ESCA) and the Exhibitor Appointed Contractors Association (EACA) announce that they are collectively sponsoring the 2008 Tradeshow National Labor/Management Conference at the Carpenters International Training Center in Las Vegas, NV on March 7-8, 2008. | LACC To Require ETCP Certification For Rigging Supervisors The Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) is the first major west coast convention center to take the lead on requiring all its rigging supervisor hires to be certified under Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP). | Extra Documentation Required for Travel Between U.S. and Canada Attendees planning to drive or sail across the U.S. and Canadian border will now need to present a driver's license and proof of citizenship. Air travel between the countries has required a passport since January 23, 2007. | The ABC's of Exclusivity In response to several recent articles and blogs in Tradeshow Week, Doug Ducate of CEIR and Jim Bracken of Nielsen Media both sent interesting notes to the publication explaining the complexities of exclusivity in the exhibitions and meetings industry for those that may not understand the big picture. | Former SISO Chariman Lew Shomer Selected as its Executive Director After a six-month process of evaluations and interviews, the board of directors of the Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO) awarded a management contract to Shomex Productions and named Lew Shomer the executive director. Shomer was SISO's chairman in 2004 and served on SISO's Board of Directors for nine years. His firm produces career fairs in numerous cities throughout the U.S. | Breden Appointed Executive Director for CEIR Cathy Breden, CAE, CMP has been appointed executive director for the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR). She will be responsible for the daily management, and will oversee administrative duties of the organization while CEIR President Doug Ducate, CEM, CMP continues his role as president and CEO and maintains industry and media relations. | Veterans Administration To Reimburse ETCP Exam Fees Under new arrangements with the Veterans Administration, it is now possible for veterans to receive reimbursement for ETCP application fees. All three ETCP exams have been approved under the G.I. Bill. Veterans may seek reimbursement for up to one year after sitting for the exam and can receive up to $2000, but not more than the actual cost of the test. The benefits are paid whether or not a passing score is achieved, and an applicant can receive benefits to retake an exam that has not been passed. Learn More | | Posting OSHA Form 300A Beginning February 1, employers must post a summary of the total number of job-related injuries and illnesses that occurred last year. Employers are only required to post the summary form (OSHA Form 300A) - not the OSHA Form 300 Log - from February 1 to April 30.
