Exhibition Worker Identification System Adds Facilities to List
Gaining momentum from the recent official recommendation from the IAAM/ICCC Joint Task Force, the ESCA WIS program is in the final stages of implementation at the Georgia World Congress Center.  We anticipate having badges delivered to the contractors and workers in February.  An exact deadline for use of the badges is still pending from GWCC management.
Hargrove Inc. Once Again Named General Service Contractor for Presidential InauguralThe Presidential Inaugural Committee selected Hargrove Inc. as the general service contractor to design, fabricate, and install the décor and manage all Technical Services (lighting, sound, and video) for ten official Inaugural Balls, and other official Inaugural events. The company provided floats for the Inaugural Parade and directional signage related to many of the inaugural events. "We are proud to continue Hargrove's tradition of service to Presidential Inaugurals that date back to 1949," said Hargrove CEO Tim McGill.
 
 
CeirCEIR:  Industry Council New Reports
Attached you will find Staggering Stats 30/30, which was released at Expo! Expo! in December, in addition to two Guru reports on operational issues which were distributed in a draft form at the Industry Council's meeting last month.  These Guru reports are now available to the public on www.ceir.org.  Please remember that as Industry Council members, you may distribute these reports freely.
 
Also included is an additional Guru report entitled Demographics at Trade Shows - Obvious and Hidden, authored by E. Jane Lorimer, CME.  Please feel free to review this report and respond with any comments or concerns as to its content before Wednesday, January 14th, at which point we will also upload this report to the CEIR site for all members to download and use.
 
Also just released The Effect of Economic Recessions on Exhibitions, which includes research that offers insight into participation at exhibitions during challenging economic times. 
 
 
 
MPI and American Express Futurewatch Study Reveals Meeting Industry Will Adapt to Changes in 2009 
DALLAS (January 9, 2009) - In partnership with American Express, Meeting Professionals International (MPI) today released the initial executive summary of FutureWatch 2009 on www.mpiweb.org. A forward-looking survey of its worldwide membership, FutureWatch focuses on the trends which will affect the meeting and event industry in the next twelve months. This year's survey had record participation with over 2,700 participants. Full survey results will be available at a presentation during MPI's 2009 MeetDifferent® conference in Atlanta, Feb. 7-10.

The Wage and Hour Division of the U. S. Department of Labor has issued amended regulations for the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) that are effective January 16, 2009.  The regulations include the expansion of FMLA for military families that was signed into law by the President in January 2008.
