| | San Jose Convention Center Exclusivity Team San Jose, the management of the San Jose CC and the San Jose CVB has executed an agreement with Teamster Local 287 and directed all contractors and users of the building that effective August 1 all labor required for material handling services is now an exclusive service provided by SJCC. The leadership of ESCA, with strong support from I.A.E.E. and S.I.S.O., has taken a strong position of opposition to this new policy. Georgia Dome to Host 2009 Annual Business Meeting & Reception
 The 2009 ESCA Annual Business Meeting will be held in the Owners Suite of the Georgia Dome on Monday, December 7. The event will be one to remember, as guests will be given a tour of the Atlanta Falcons dressing room, have an opportunity to have their picture taken on the 50 yard line with Atlanta Falcon cheerleaders then ushered up to the Owners Suite for a reception, dinner and business program hi-lighting ESCA's accomplishments of 2009 and our goals for 2010. ESCA WIS Badge Program Gaining Momentum As the WIS program matures, additional venues are asking for the program to be instituted in their buildings. ESCA recently reached agreement with Global Spectrum facility management to install the program in all twelve (12) of the convention centers they manage, with an eye toward moving into the forty (40) plus arenas they manage in 2010.

ESCA's Lunch and Learn Site Inspection Workshop Draws Well at Javitz Center The ESCA Standards & Best Practices Committee, headed by Bobby Lee of Metropolitan Expo, presented the 3rd Lunch & Learn workshop on "How to Plan and Execute an Effective and Productive Site Visit of Hotels and Exhibition Venues". Hosted by Jacob Javitz Convention Center, the workshop was attended by 65 ESCA members and guests. Plans are already under way for the next session so stay tuned for the upcoming announcement on date(s) and location(s).

MPEA and IBEW 134 Agree to Workforce Re-Organization The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA) today announced a reorganization of its resident workforce of electricians (FOCUS One) to further improve quality, efficiency and customer service on the exhibition floor. The reorganization reflects collaboration between MPEA and Local 134 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Learn More

City of Dallas Breaks Ground on Omni Dallas Convention Center Hotel In a ceremony featuring Mayor Tom Leppert, the Dallas City Council and a broad spectrum of civic and community leaders, the City of Dallas broke ground today on the 23-story Omni Dallas Convention Center Hotel, endorsed by voters in May and backed by the sale of nearly $500 million in revenue bonds in August. When the property opens in early 2012, Dallas will boast a luxurious, 1,000-room hotel with state-of-the-art features and convenient skybridge access into one of the nation's largest convention centers.
