Have You Registered For ESCA's Annual Business Meeting?

ESCA will be providing a shuttle from the Marriott Marquis beginning at 5:30PM.  Registration will open at 6:00PM and the reception will run from 6:30PM - 8:30PM. We suggest that you may want to consider inviting a client as your guest.  However, the event will conclude early enough for you to meet with your clients later in the evening.
 
The event will be one to remember, as guests will be given a tour of the Atlanta Falcons dressing room, have an opportunity to have their picture taken on the 50 yard line with Atlanta Falcon cheerleaders then ushered up to the Owners Suite for a reception, dinner and business program hi-lighting ESCA's accomplishments of 2009 and our goals for 2010. 2010 Membership Dues News
Your 2010 membership dues invoice has been mailed earlier this month.  We are pleased to advise you that even though our dues structure has increased for the first time in five years, you can reduce that increase for the first time ever by paying your dues timely.
 
Note that the following discounts will be applied if your invoice is paid according to the following deadline dates:
  • Pay by 12/31/09 and receive a 10% discount
  • Pay by 01/31/10 and receive a 5% discount
ESCA, IAEE & SISO Oppose San Jose  Convention Center Exclusivity
According to Dan Fenton, CEO of Team San Jose, the initial thought was to incorporate changes into the working conditions of the San Jose Convention Center that would "distinguish" San Jose as a meeting destination in a very competitive market.  Seems like a logical move, doesn't it?  Well, distinguishing themselves is exactly what Team San Jose is doing.  However, the moves being made are distinguishing them in the wrong way.

San Jose City Council Softens Goals for Maligned Convention Center Operator
Two years ago, a civil grand jury rapped San Jose officials for failing to hold the agency that runs the city's convention center responsible for missing its performance goals and costing taxpayers millions of dollars a year. On Tuesday, the City Council unanimously took action: It lowered those goals.

Additional Venues add ESCA WIS Program
The ESCA WIS badge program is up and running in the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta and the George R Brown Convention Center in Houston with over 6000 badges already issued.  Currently in the implementation stage is the Miami Beach Convention Center.
 
Next on the roll-out schedule is the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnati.  ESCA staff will be at the DCC December 14-15 for the orientation and training of local Administrators. The Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park, Kansas is scheduled for implementation in January of 2010.

ESCA's 4th Lunch and Learn Site Inspection Workshop Set for Miami Beach Convention Center
Building on the success of the past three workshops, the ESCA Standards & Best Practices Committee, headed by Bobby Lee of Metropolitan Expo and Rich Curran of Expo convention Contractors, will be presenting the 4th Lunch & Learn Workshop on "How to Plan and Execute an Effective and Productive Site Visit of Hotels and Exhibition Venues".  The Miami Beach Convention Center will be hosting the workshop on March 16, 2010. Plans are well under way, so stay tuned for the upcoming announcement on registration for the program.
